Crockpot Red Hot Applesauce

Filed under: Crock Pot Recipes, Fruit, Uncategorized — ruralmomof3 @ 1:36 pm

My husband loves red hots and he especially loves those little red hot candies melted into applesauce. Our dear adopted grandma, Bobbie, used to make red hot applesauce and my dh just loved it! She also made some awesome beef and noodles- but I’ve been unable to duplicate that one! Anyway, here’s what I made the other day.

The recipe:

A mixture of apples that have been peeled, cored, and sliced or chunked up- enough to fill your crock pot.

1-2 handfuls of red hot candies- dumped on top of the apples

Water- carry your crockpot lid to the sink, put in enough water to cover the bottom of the lid and carefully dump that into the crockpot too.

Keep on low heat all day long. After 6-8 hours, take the lid off and stir and mush the yummy clumpy mixture in there. When everything has turned red and you have mushed up the apple pieces a bit, replace the lid but leave it at an angle so heat/steam can escape. Increase your heat to high and let it reduce for another hour or so. Serve!!
