Raisin, Date, Walnut Oatmeal

When Quaker first came out with the wonderful invention of instant oatmeal, I was in love! If mom could find it on sale we would get a special treat. Back then there were very basic flavors- raisin, date, walnut was one of them and my favorite! Since then, I have learned that this combination is even better when made from scratch! The trick is to cook that dried fruit and nut with your oatmeal. Here you go!

The Recipe:

Follow the package instructions for the particular variety of oatmeal you have on hand except:

  • Replace half the water with milk
  • Do not boil the liquid before adding your oats and fruit
  • Put it all in the pan together, adding raisins, chopped dates, and walnut pieces (for 4 servings, I would put a good hanful of each in ) before you start cooking.
  • Bring to a boil and stir for the amount of time instructed on the package.
  • Serve with cold milk and brown sugar!

Enjoy this on a cool morning with your favorite coffee or juice!
